Update: Lobby Day Plans
Hey-
So, we had a meeting yesterday where we just started to get a framework in mind for the lobby day. We need about 4 volunteers or so to do it effectively, but more are always welcome. The goal will be to spread information on why divestment is sound policy for the legislators to vote on. Those of you who may be nervous of meeting with an elected official can relax: 1) it’s not that hard and 2) chances are that you will speak to staff people. We will give every lobbyist a packet of information to look over that has everything on it. These packets will then be given to the legislators to make sure they have all the info too.
We were thinking of doing this on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday at the last week of the month. However, if the bill moves before then, we can do a ’scramble-day’ on Monday the 21st.
Anyone interested in participating should contact Tom or Han at SPDmsu@gmail.com

Hi, Thom. You may want to steer people to MI Darfur Coalition (www.michigandarfurcoalition.org) from your blog. The Senate is taking up HB 846-856 on Wed. and we are trying to get the senate to pass HB4854 as a stand alone instead of waiting for C. Brown’s anti-terror bills to wend their way through the house. There is only a short time in which to maneuver this so we ask that you and others act as soon as possible.
We are placing a letter there where people can mail it or email it to their senators urging them to pass HB 4854. We sent out a mailing of 2000 postcards the other day and we making the letter iavailable to others to send the letter from our website (couldn’t afford more than 2000 mailings).
Hope all is well. Keep up the good fight. Ginny Mitchell, Michigan Darfur Coalition, January 13, 2008
